Materials
Just add more stripes to change poncho directions from infant size, as written, to fit sizes 1-2, 3-4, and 5-6. Use about 4 ounces each of Colors A, B and C in 4-ply knitting worsted weight


Instructions
NOTE: Length at center front point, excluding fringe: 10 (11 1/2, 13, 14 1/2) or desired inches. Poncho has 4 points: front, back, and 2 shoulder points. Alternate colors in sequence of A, B, and C, working stripes of 2 rows per color.

Poncho: With color A, ch 36.

Row 1 (Wrong Side): 2 Dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in each of next 7 ch, * 3 dc in next ch (mark center st), dc in each of next 7 ch, repeat from * twice, 2 dc in last ch.

Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), turn, 2 dc in first st, work to first marker (shoulder point) and 3 dc in marked st work to second marker (back point), 5 dc in marked st, work to 3rd marker (second shoulder point), 3 dc in marked st, work to end of row, 3 dc in last St.

Continue to mark center St of inc sts fasten off A.

Row 3: Join color B, ch 3, turn, 1 dc in first st, * work to marker, 3 dc in marked st, repeat from * twice, work to last st, 2 dc in top of ch 3.

Row 4: Ch 3, turn, 2 dc in first st, work to first shoulder marker, 3 dc in marked st, work to back marker, 5 dc in marked st, work to second shoulder marker, 3 dc in marked st, work to last st, 2 dc in top of ch 3, fasten off.

Row 5 (Joining Row—Right Side): With color C, sl st in top of ch 3 on other front edge—center point of front, ch 3, 2 dc in same st, work in pattern and 3 dc in each marked st, end row with sl st in top of ch 3.

Continue working in rnds.

Rnd 6: Sl st across 1 st, ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 5 dc in center of front and back points and 3 dc in center of shoulder points, end with sl st in top of ch 3, fasten off.

Rnd 7: With new color, sl st across 2 sts, ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), work 3 dc in center of each point, end with sl st in top of ch 3.

Repeat last 2 rnds continuing in stripe pattern until 12 (14, 16, 18) or desired rows from beginning. Fasten off.

Collar: Join desired color at left neck edge, sc around front opening, 2 Sc in last st at right neck edge, sc around neck, dec 2 sts at center back, join to first sc.

Row 2: Ch 1 (counts as 1 sc), turn, sc in second st and in each St across right neck edge.

Row 3: Ch 1, turn, sc in second st and in each st to end of row (left neck edge).

Repeat last 2 rows 4 times more fasten off.

Fringe: With color A, wind yard around a 3 1/2 inch wide piece of cardboard and cut along 1 edge (7-inch strands). Repeat with colors B and C. Holding 3 strands together (1 of each color), slip knot fringe into every other st around lower edge of poncho.
